At Sutton C of E Primary School, being a Church school is at the heart of who we are. Our Christian vision,"Living Life to the Full" (John 10:10), shapes our school community and inspires us to help every child flourish academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally. Through our daily experiences, relationships and worship, we encourage children to discover their unique gifts and talents and to use them to make a positive difference in the world around them.
Central to our vision are our school values of STRIVE, which guide how we learn, grow and live together as a community. These values provide a shared foundation for our decisions, actions and aspirations, helping children develop character, resilience and a sense of responsibility towards others.
Collective Worship is a cherished and highly valued part of school life. Every day, we come together as a whole school community to pause, reflect, celebrate and learn. This daily gathering strengthens our sense of belonging and provides opportunities for spiritual development, enabling pupils and adults alike to explore life's big questions and reflect on their own beliefs and values. In Church schools, collective worship is recognised as a cornerstone of school life, contributing significantly to the flourishing of the whole community. The Church of England's 2026 Statement of Entitlement highlights the importance of creating opportunities for pupils to explore their own spiritual and philosophical thinking and engage in meaningful dialogue with others.
Our worship is inclusive and invitational, welcoming children and adults of all faiths and none. Whilst firmly rooted in Christian beliefs, values and teachings from the Bible, we encourage everyone to participate in a way that is comfortable and meaningful for them. Through stories, reflection, prayer, music and discussion, pupils encounter the teachings of Jesus and explore how these can help us live well together in modern society.
We use a shared spiritual language of WOWs, OWS and NOWs to help children recognise and talk about spirituality in everyday life:
- WOWs are moments of awe and wonder that inspire curiosity and appreciation of the world around us.
- OWs are moments of challenge, disappointment or difficulty that encourage resilience, empathy and reflection.
- NOWs are moments that prompt us to think deeply about ourselves, our relationships and our place in the world.
This shared language helps children develop confidence in expressing their thoughts, asking questions and reflecting on their experiences, supporting their spiritual growth across all areas of school life.
Throughout the year, our worship is enriched through church visits, clergy involvement, Christian festivals and special celebrations. We work closely with our local church and wider community, helping children understand what it means to live out Christian values in action. Opportunities for pupil leadership, reflection and prayer ensure that children play an active role in shaping worship and developing the life of our school community.
At Sutton, Collective Worship is much more than a daily gathering. It is a special time when we unite as a school family, strengthening our relationships, celebrating our successes, supporting one another and living out our vision of Living Life to the Full. Through worship, we nurture children who are reflective, compassionate, respectful and ready to contribute positively to the communities they belong to.
